Kitfox gets mashed by bus

The converted Greyhound (real nice cabinetry inside, the whole thing was a real class job, all the work performed by the owner, a sad deal all around) somehow started rolling from the neighbors place above, a good 10% grade or more in the canyon setting across the valley from my place, brake failed/wasn't set, whatever.....) Imageit gathered steam and went into the post and beam shop. It sheared off the 6x6 posts like toothpicks, and rolled up the 16' utility trailer that was hooked onto the red truck. Truck frame bent, it drives crooked now. It tore the receiver hitch tongue in half! The rolled up trailer was then mashed into the Kitfox (wings folded, inactive, older model, but still sad to see). A total writeoff, both wings and fuselage all tail feathers gone. The 2-stroke engine and some hardware could be salvaged, that's all. I got the call for the crane service required. All parties well insured, and no one hurt, if the bus would have made it through the shop the house was next in line :shock: ImageImageImage

582 with three blade IVO? Can't tell if it has the folding wing Kit. :D

Bad luck, good no one was hurt.

Looks like the bus made out the best.

A clearcut case of fuel exhaustion. Someone needs to cite that kitfox owner.

Yeah, I can just see the NTSB report;

Pilot cited for failure to foresee and maintain safe distance from unforeseen ground originating hazards.

Re: Kitfox gets mashed by bus

The bus had minor cosmetic damage in the sheet stainless panels on the front. These are readily available the owner tells me as there are many owner type groups out there for bus freaks nowadays, the internet make it easy of course.

I have a nuke puke friend who used to ride a Site bus to the big INEL site out in the desert, one time he got woken up from his usual nap while on the way out in the morning. Just felt a little bump....it turns out the bus had rode up and was on a car, killing the driver. Pretty safe transportation, the recent spate of fatal accidents aside. Kept upright and away from bridge abutments anyway. The contrast between the shop and it's contents and the bus front pretty much tells the story. Bus 1, shop and contents 0 :shock: Image
