I'm told that I got to see the Anchorage area at its very best in terms of weather this weekend. A T-craft friend of mine took me out to the Knik glacier gorge, up the glacier and over the hill to Prince William Sound, to the little airport at Hope out by Turnagain arm, and then back to Lake Hood strip. Wow! You Alaska guys have the most gorgeous scenery in the world to fly in. My host was a former resident of Nome and indeed had flown around Kotzebue in the past (but not professionally in the aforementioned awful conditions).

So I said the same stupid thing to him that every stupid tourist would say to a local pilot in Anchorage in May... "I'd love to move up here and fly around these places". So he says to me, "Well, can you handle a little cold weather?"

I said "Sure I can, back in California we know exactly when to put on our winter longjohns... as soon as the temperature plummets below +80 F"

For some reason he put me on the next flight back to Burbank.

Ha ha... My wife is from W. Yellowstone, MT and I am from Southeast Texas. She keeps it freezing in this house. I have to wear layers in my office. LOL

Glad you had the opportunity to do a little bit of flying around while you where up here. My wife and I stopped by your booth at the trade show and you demonstrated how the EZFLAP might work on the Husky. It is a very nice mod.

Hope you can make it back up again next year.

One of the things I remember about Kotzebue, was coming out of a restaurant and hearing this motor wind up and there is this guy going up the shoreline about 50 feet off shore on a snowmobile doing about 60-70 mph in the water!

Bill, I enjoyed meeting you too. I hope you had a good trade show. Seemed like lots of folks were stopping to look at the EZFlap. Glad you got a chance to get out and about a bit. I've been on that round robin trip you described. When the weather is like it's been the last few days, it's simply gorgeous. Haven't seen the Knik Glacier or Lake George since last fall, so I guess I might wind up the old 182 and go up and make sure it's still there tomorrow......lol. As for the cold weather, I had a friend that had a FBO on the Torrance airport that I went down to visit during the Christmas season few years back. I was running around down there in a Woolrich heavy shirt using it like a jacket and the California folks were bundled up like it was 20 below....cracked me up.... What really seemed strange to me was 50 degrees, palm trees and Christmas lights.......just didn't seem right....

I enjoyed meeting you too, sorry we didn't have more time to visit but I didn't want to hold up a potential paying customer standing behind me

Good show and I managed to get out having only paid for my raffle tickets and lunch. But we had a couple of close calls, my wallet and me

Oh, you forgot the Santa Claus'es in their red and white shorts and suntan lotion, walking around trying to sell North Pole movie screenplays.

Years ago we actually had a department store Santa try to sue the store because he passed out... the costume was too warm and they didn't have a fan or AC blowing on him. Between that and the sexual harrassment suit from one of the Elves, we don't see Santa too much in department stores anymore... but I think I did see him on an adult internet website sometime last December. I think the movie title was "Pimpin' Santa and his Ho Ho Hoe's"
