L19 Bull Rider

Years ago, probably 30 or so, I had a picture on my hangar wall of a guy riding ON the back of an L19/O-1 Bird Dog. The airplane was in flight with a notch of flaps down, and he was using a bull rider rig to hang on.

Sans parachute of course.

If I remember right, the pic appeared in Pacific Flyer magazine. In all the moves since then, I can't find my copy. Anyone but me remember this photo? I'm wearing Google out with all the searching, but no luck.

Kinda like Pecos Bill only riding an L19 instead of a twister.

Slim Pickins on the bomb, a classic moment in the movies, what a cast, what a great movie.

It all looks good, "from a distance".

Re: L19 Bull Rider

Not the pic your looking for, but a peculiar idea at best. After working with skydivers for a week or so, I find it would be well received. I can just imagine the company commander asking for volunteers. "we want to strap you to the bomb racks…" "oh, oh, pick me, pick me." as they dance from foot to foot with their hands raised.

That pylon-mount Birddog would be prefect for a flying squirrel suit launch.

Re: L19 Bull Rider

I had a "friend" who had flying/drinking buddies and a dog who didn't mind riding on the floats... And how many of us have spent time hanging on helicopter skids.

The pic I'm looking for is real. Rumor has it, a couple guys near Truckee circa 1980 or so.
