I updated the description for this airport. The new owner (for a couple of years now) Micky is a totally cool guy and has an FBO (
http://traditionaviation.com/) at the Jacqueline Cochran Regional Airport (KTRM:
http://www.airnav.com/airport/KTRM).
Like I mentioned in the description on SF, Micky doesn't mind aviators dropping in most anytime. Just call ahead to make sure somebody is there and it's OK to land. During the week, the track (
http://www.chuckwallavalleyraceway.com) might have private testing and events happening.
After talking to Micky for a few minutes, he was telling me about a recent Fly In he had that sounded just like an Austin Fly In. I think if you SoCal pilots flew out there to Desert Center and get to know Mickey, that will end up being a fun destination. Kind of like Austin. Not much out there, but fun times to be had!!
Also, if you stop in at Tradition Aviation at KTRM and mention your from the race track, you should get a nice discount on fuel
