Jr,

great stab at an article/story. I'll help you get it formatted nicely with the photos.

Junior, instead of "God speed & fly safe" maybe you should wish us "airspeed & fly safe". Or maybe airspeed, altitude & common sense. Anyway, I'm glad you had a lesson that didn't come with a price (like a bent airplane). Over more toward this side, Skykomish is a real nice state airstrip. North of ya, Stehekin is pretty cool, and south of ya Tieton (Rimrock Lake) is a good one.
I'm thinkiing about hitting Copalis Beach State airstrip one day this weekend, looks like mid-day (minus) low tides. If the hot weather holds it oughta be fun.

Tomorrow the family and I head up to Point Roberts for lunch. I have never been in there before but am looking for to it. We are meeting up with another couple of Maules around noon time if anyone wants to show up. Went to Copalis last week with the moderate tides and had a ball. If any of you go in there, fly bye first to look for the rock, it has a tendency to show up now and again. Last week it was buried. Might try the Ocean sometime this weekend too. Eric, if your going to go out, PM me and we'll try to tie with you. Good story JR, and people wonder why pilots are different, if we don't think, the penalties are steep.

Gunny, it sounds like you're talking about Karl's little strip at Duvall.

I was out & about in that area a while back, Karl wasn't home, but I figured it'd be OK to shoot a landing. I decided to dogleg to the right around the tree on final instead of going over & then dropping down. Well, maybe that was a mistake,as it turned out to be more of a dogleg than I expected. So I kept my airspeed up a bit while I was maneuvering to get lined up on short final, as a result when I flared I floated down the runway for quite a ways. More real estate went by than I was comfortable with before I touched down, so I just made it a touch and go. Also a factor was the big slug of adreneline that I got about the time I was doglegging around that darn tree at about 100' AGL!
Anyway, to answer youir question, yes I have been in there. Sort of.

Feel free to use the farm strip anytime. Call me (Jason 206-930-2332) or Karl (206-550-1177) if you have any questions on the best approach.

Tieton is great, long and smooth. Land towards the water incase of go-around. I will go fly with anyone out there that wants to experience flying off airport/back country. Not a pro by any-means, but have "been there" and "done that" more times than most, and can help point you in the right direction.
