Several of the best are on the way to Shelter Cove. That is as nice as it gets. Good sea food at south end of strip.

I have about 15 landings at Garberville. We did a plumbing job just south of there so I kept a car at the airport. The next job was at Weaverville so I just moved the car. I bid on in Trinity center but missed it. Did get one in Happy Camp so that is where it went next.

That part of Cal is really good flying.

I'll second Ocean Ridge as being one of the tougher ones in CA! I had to go-around on my first attempt. Couldn't figure out which way the wind was blowing (the sock just wouldn't make up it's mind) and I guessed wrong the first time. It's kinda narrow and not aligned with the prevailing winds. It's also surrounded by tall trees and when you drop below the tree tops, it can get real 'interesting'.

A friend and I have an informal competition, we both collect airports. I have 403 of them which I keep scattered across http://the-adam.com/adam/airports the United States and a little bit of Canada while he's landed at every public, paved strip in Arizona. I just went for a run at Cibecue, Arizona, this morning.

Last posted was a few days past a year ago.... So why not bring it back to life. I found this thread a while back and was inspired to do the same. At least get most of socal. My mission is to not only land but also take a photo of each airport...Anyways I thought this was a cool thread.....

This seems like a cool Idea so I started my own map to track all the airports I've landed at. I've been to 110 so far (I'm sure I forgot a few) across 8 states, most of my flying has been in Washington.

I updated my map with off airport landings that I have done. I used a red line to represent the area that I landed on, it even tells you the distance in feet, pretty cool!

Interesting, I like the red lines. Your Lake Pend Orielle landing appears to be under water. I'm sure its seasonal unless you were on floats.

No floats, the water was low and the sand bar was exposed. Here is a couple of shots my dad took from the air in his C-120. I was flying a friends Super Cub.

This is one of the threads I think about quite often. I'd like to do the same for Idaho (land at all public airports) and also try to include as many private strips as possible (since most Idahoans seem to be welcoming folks).

Next time I'm down in the SoCal area for a length of time in my Skylane, I have this idea of landing at all public airports on the LA Terminal chart (and yes, even LAX ). If possible, I'd like to land at some of the private strips on the LA Terminal chart, too.

Does anybody here know anything about these strips that are on the LA Terminal?

And what about March AFB and Los Alamitos? You think it's easy to get permission to at least do a touch and go at these airports on the weekend or during slow times? I've seen what appears to be private single engine planes in and out of Los Alamitos on a regular basis. But not sure if they could be CHP, CAP, or other Gov. planes

I have never landed at these places but I fly in the area. I know Skylark is an airport used for sky diving and I think they are pretty active. I believe it is dirt and right by lake Elsinore.

Lake Riverside is up in the hills. It is a dirt field and from the air it looks like an air park with dirt taxi ways to houses.

I would also like info on March. Last time I heard there was a push to allow GA aircraft. I'm sure you could get permission but your guess is good as mine.

I have started working on the same goal here in Texas. I just got my license, so I am in the beginning stages. I am hitting the airports in the surrounding counties right now, then I'll work my way out.

That will be fun! Airnav shows 392 airports in Texas (I'm assuming public). And 251 airports in California. So, you have your work cut out for you. Maybe you can start a new thread with pictures?

Hey, thanks for the shout out! I WISH I was still flying the Husky. Sold it a year ago. It's now for sale by a broker in Virginia. Great airplane, loved it but with a 2 year old daughter now I realized it wasn't a great "family" airplane. With the proceeds we landscaped the back yard which transformed it from "war zone" to kid-friendly" and I bought an IAR 823 Romanian warbird (aerobatic, sticks, low wing retractable with 4 seats). Not a backcountry airplane at all! But a fun cruiser nonetheless. When I get back to a high wing tandem airplane it will likely be a Scout. Much easier to get in/out of than the Husky!
