Landing problems on your property?

Any information on landing problems on your property?

I know I can land in my hay field. If I don't keep the plane here do you think I'll be ok?

I won't fly over any houses on short final or take off.

Suggestions?

Thanks

Look up to see what your zoning is. Then see what can be done in the zoning.

My zoning is prime agg A-1 I just looked it up.
Sec. 10-6.5003. - Conditional uses permitted.
Subject to obtaining a use permit, the following uses shall be permitted in the AG-1 District:
(a) Private airports and landing fells;
(b) Dairies, commercial poultry operations, feed lots, and hog farms;
(c) Public utility buildings;
(d) Home occupations;
(e) In addition to the uses listed above, the uses listed in Article 15, General Provisions, may also be permitted, subject to the issuance of a use permit; and
(f) Continued operation of the Yreka Landfill, and any expansion or modification of municipal solid waster activities at the Yreka Landfill.
(§ I, Ord. 86-2, eff. February 27, 1986, as amended by § I, Ord. 94-07, eff. April 14, 1994, and § I, Ord. 04-07, eff. June 1, 2004)

Tell your neighbors what you have planned. Unwind the prop as soon after TO as practical. The biggy- offer rides to neighbors & their kids/grandkids. A friend of mine does this & he does wonders for making the neighborhood aviation-friendly.

Conditional use permits here are a bitch to get through. I feel my ace is not basing the plane there. I could be wrong. This project is costing me very little money so if they shut me down not the end of the world.

Re: Landing problems on your property?

Many years back I had a farm with hayfield 600ft near Brooks OR. (North of Salem 10 miles)
I called Oregon aeronautic dept.
The responder said; make sure you can clear a residence by 500 ft utilizing a 22:1 slope and don't mark the field with R, X, or windsock so as not to define an airfield. I had nothing more to do and flew in and out for quite a while.

Re: Landing problems on your property?

I would talk to the neighbors close by, not for permission, but for the heads up that it is a planned landing on your own land and you will not come in over their house. That way nobody lets their imagination run wild on why you landed there. Years back I landed with my son behind a small town bar and grill, something I had cleared with the bar owner for doing. I landed on his adjoining town lots not used for parking. We taxied to the rear of the bar and shut down for some lunch and found that they were now closed on sundays, didn't know that and left. A black pickup had followed us as we taxied away and flew off. Later in the week we drove back to have supper. The black pickup was parked at the bar and the beer was flowing and the story of the plane landing last sunday was being told. We ate our supper and listened as the story got better with each round or as another friend joined them. During a later round of beer the story had evolved into one of aerial drug drops and decisions being made to bring the assholes down with the Ought Six to stop those drug smuggling bastards, I decided to introduce myself and tell what really happened. That was unfortunate because it ruined the source of both of our evening's entertainment. Point is, don't be misunderstood about repeated landings on that piece of land. Provided you know it is legal in the first place, which it probably is.
Hotrod 150's suggestion on the plane ride offer is very good PR.

Good thoughts all. Thanks and keep them coming. There is another member watching this with much interest also. He doesn't want to talk as he has had bad interactions with the government already.

This hay field is NOT a place I would take neighbors for a joy ride. The HAY field is like landing at Vines or other maximum performance places. No room for error.

Then land once so you can say you did it. No point in doing it after that cus you said that you will not be keeping the plane there anyway. At my place, I built the hobby shop before I ever landed. But then I have lots of room.

I have been to Mile High 3 times. So if it doesn't scare the crap out of me I will use it when ever I feel like it. Honestly it should be fine. The wing tip will pass my house by 30-40' Is that enough clearance Terry?
