Lang Creek Brewery... fly in for the beer!

This subject deserves its own thread... -Z

Zane, if you're a microbrew nut, then you need to know about the tiny brewry in a barn in Montana, that has it's own grass strip.

Lang Creek Brewery http://www.langcreekbrewery.com/

It's only not far from the Idaho border, set in a beautiful rural valley, with log cabins. The strip is in a meadow, then has a steep hill up to the a/c parking area behind the barn where they brew several kinds of beer. The run off of the low hill gives you a nice start on gathering the airspeed for lift off before the fence at the end.

They have a micro tasting room, complete with a tray of chips with "black rice" in 'em.
Quite a place. I'm not a drinker, but my buddies loved it, and it's extremely pretty country.
Enjoy, Berk

Here's some more on the Lang Creek Brewery & strip:

Lang Creek Brewing
langcreekbrewery.com
655 Lang Creek Road
Marion, Montana 59925
(406) 858-2200

Brewer: John Campbell

About the Brewery:
Lang Creek Brewery is perhaps the only brewery with an airstrip located on premise. The strip can be found on the Great Falls sectional under "Campbell Ranch" at approximately 48 N by 115 W. The strip is turf, 35' wide by 1900' long. Elevation is 3,360'. The strip is one-way. You land on 28 and depart on 10.

Lang Creek Brewery was founded in the spring of 1993 for the purpose of brewing full flavored traditional English style ales for the rapidly expanding microbrewery markets. Our brewery, housed in a converted aircraft hangar, is located in Marion, Montana which is 42 miles west of Kalispell and according to "New Brewer Magazine" holds the distinction of being the most remote brewery in the country.

(I can almost hear the crinkling of your Great Falls sectional unfolding as you begin your flight planning! )
Enjoy, Berk

Half a century spent proving “it is better to be thought a fool than to open your mouth and remove all doubt.”

There must be a 45 minute rule before flying, huh.

How do they feel about overnighters???

I'm not a professional, so I can't drink and fly... ;-)

I seem to remember that they may have offered a few room rentals in the house, but not sure.
At any rate, there's lots of space to just camp under your wing in the mowed field.
You better check with 'em first, but the place is very laid back, and I got the impression, that with the right attitude, about anything goes.
Nights must be gettting chilly there by now? Bundle up, and Enjoy, Berk

(We ended up departing in the middle of the summer afternoon, with a high density altitude, and a much lower blood alcohol density).

The owner of Lang Creek Brewery, John Campbell, is a pilot, as is his son Mike. Mike is a spray pilot in Dutton, MT and is the proprietor of Campbell Aviation in Dutton. He was also my flight instructor and has logged alot of "backcountry" flight hours. Both Campbell's are great people.

It's about 15 miles from me.... I went to school with Mike Campbell from 6th grade on.....
The nights are below freezing almost every night here now, so bundle up if you're gonna camp.
