larger tires for 172

Have you modified your aircraft? STC? STOL Kit? Major rebuild from just a data plate?

The Type Cerificate 3A-17 covers 175's, 172 Powermatics, T41's and Hawk XP's. They are all derived from the 175 just changed the names because of the problems with the geard O-300 Engine.

So if you need a field approval for 800x6 on the mains would you then need a field approval for 600x6--6 ply on the mains because the equipment list says 4 ply.

All this time I thought the T-41 was just a jazed up 172. And the Hawk XP was a high powered 172. So does that mean that a 175 is just a 172 with bigger tanks and a geared engine.

No I think there are some structural beef-ups as well. I read somewhere about a thicker shear web in the wing spar, but I am not 100% dead nuts certain of it.

No. There are no plys in tires anymore. It is ply rating. You need a minimum 4 ply rating tire. A six ply rating tire will handle more weight but will weigh more itself.

BM. It does not say 4 ply rating minimum. It says 4 ply rating.

Just being a prick about this.

Re: larger tires for 172

There is a T-41 based on the 172.The T-41 based on the 175 uses the IO-360 6cyl Continental same as the HawkXP.The Hawk XP is a late model 175,type certificate 3A-17.As far as I know the wing is the same as a 172 just bigger tanks(same as long-range 172)Gross wt on 175s is higher.Lots of engine stc's all the way to 0-470.I have a whole plane dis-assembled.
