Leading edge skins or cuffs for Pacer?

I'm looking to get some information on putting a cuff or aluminum skin on the leading edge of my pacers wing. It's suffering from several small dents that aren't quite bad enough to force me to re-cover it. When I was talking with a Super Cub owner the other day, he had mentioned that he just got done putting a leading edge STOL cuff on. After doing some research, the only one I found for the Pacer was the x-winds. However, I don't want the fences and wing tips.

Are there any cuffs, aside from the x-winds, available for a Pacer?

Could I put an aluminum skin over the leading edge and rivet it in place with a 337?

Thanks for the info!

I believe the Crosswinds is the only cuff out there for Piper wings. And, no, you can't just nail a piece of sheet metal on the leading edge to cover dents.

Why wouldn't you want the tips and fences, Talk to someone who has Charlie's kit before you decide. If you get a good fabric guy you might be able to put a new leading edges on and use your existing cover??

Re: Leading edge skins or cuffs for Pacer?

We have Charly Center (Crosswind STOL) Cuffs on our Pacer. They are the only ones approved for the Pacer that we know of. The "tips" that are referred to on his web site is just the plate on the end of the cuff and not his wing tip conversion. Here is a quote directly from his site:

"The basic kit consist of a leading edge cuff, tip spill plates, inboard flap extensions and STOL fences that separate the air between the ailerons and flaps."

The only problem we have with the cuff is you have to fly the airplane behind the power curve for them to work and that is a very uncomfortable "nose high" attitude to fly at. We will probably be removing the cuff the next time we rebuild the wings. The standard wing with VG's fly's just as well or better than the cuffed wing without VG's.

Our Pacer wing has Demer Tips and VG's installed also. When we installed the cuff we modified the tips to blend in with the cuff. There is another Pacer on the field that has Plane Booster (Now Cub Crafters) tips with the LE Cuff on it also. If I have a little time today I will get a couple of pics of each and post here.

Re: Leading edge skins or cuffs for Pacer?

Thanks for the info!

I like the idea of gorilla glue... The only reason I'm opposed to the x winds kit is because I've got a friend who has one on his 22-20 and he's cruising at around 105 MPH at 2400 rpm with 6.00 wheels and a cruise prop. With my current set-up (stock wings, 8.50's, and a cruise prop) I'm getting closer to 125 MPH and getting off the ground even shorter than him (probably attributed to Pacer's light weight). I was hoping to get vg's and a climb prop, but I don't know if i want to spend the $700 to put vg's on my dented wings... Do you guys know if you can remove vg's for recovering wings and re-glue them on the new covering if I decide to do that in the future? I guess I could even use gorilla glue to put them back on!

Re-cover just the leading edge? Sounds difficult, but I'll see if my fabric guy can do it...

Thanks for the info Brian. I had a feeling that the stock wings with vg's would be just as effective, thanks for confirming.
