Let's see some hunting camps

There is not much better than hunting out of a camp. Whether they are permanent or tent camps, it doesn't matter. Let;s see some, and a story or two wouldn't hurt either. Our "Camp" has been in the same spot for over 70 years. We set up on state land in the Hudson Gorge Primitive area about 2 1/2 miles in. Cook tent - in the foreground, sleep tent the farther one. This year we set up on 10/18 and barring heavy snow will take down the first weekend in Dec. Lots of good times and even a deer or two once in a while. This is a nice big woods Adirondack Buck I got yesterday while out still hunting.

Re: Let's see some hunting camps

On the LT Murray State Wildlife Recreation Area in Central Washington. The roads get pretty rough from here on in so not many RVs or camp trailers past this spot. There are a few tent camps further in.

The hunters start setting up their camps in late August when Archery and muzzle loader season opens. Then rifle deer in October then Elk in early November. It is crowded but most of the camps are long held "Traditional Spots" for the hunters occupying them. They put a sign up on their camp spot a week or so before the first season to reserve it. Everyone seems to respect this "Reservation" system.

Some of the signs I remember seeing off hand are, Fire Fighters, Ephrata Boys, and Good Old Boys. This is about a Mile and a half up the canyon from my house. I don't hunt anymore but enjoy walking up there and talking with the hunters each fall.

In winter the game department feeds the elk to keep them from migrating down into the agricultural land (Tmmothy Hay)
