OK I'm pretty recently retired military pilot so I used to have SGLI insurance. Now I'm a civilian so no insurance. I'm 47, good record, non smoker etc. All the things life insurance companies like to hear. That's until they hear I fly for a living. They don't seem to like that. Now I understand insurance is betting against yourself etc. I don't want this to become a discussion as to wether I should or shouldn't buy insurance or not. The six and ten year old at home settled that.
So which companies are aviator friendly? So far the best I've found is Minnesota life (AOPA). Are there better deals out there? Who do you guy's use?

If you have kids and especially if your wife isn't working, then you should have life insurance under all circumstances. If your wife works she should probably have it too. Base your coverage on the standard formula.

Sorry, I can't recommend a carrier, my wife and I insure with a professional group. If you get in touch with a reputable independent agent, he or she should be able to give you the option of several underwriters who will cover you as a pilot for a reasonable cost.

Doesn't the military and veteran's affairs offer life insurance for retirees??? Coulda sworn they did. Course, that coverage may not cover flying.

I'm a retired federal employee, and the government does offer continued coverage for life insurance--for a price, of course for retired employees. Not to suggest it's the best life insurance, either..

You might do a double check on the availability of military insurance.

You can convert your SGLI to VGLI S=soldier V=Vetran. It's terribly expensive and not good insurance. I believe it's for people that would be pretty much un-insurable any other way. Vets with problems with agent orange, combat related stresses, disabilities etc.

I think you just need to take a stab at getting some quotes. I googled "life insurance for pilots" and the first result that came up was:

I saw results for Travers, AOPA, SelectQuote, all sorts. You probably just need to fire off a bunch of request for quotes to companies like this that claim to be "pilot friendly." This reminds me of the aircraft insurance thread, where it seems there is no clear winner, just a different fit for every pilot/plane combo.

I get mailing pretty regularly from (as I recall) AOPA offering life insurance for pilots,so it must be available. I have no dependents, so I don't carry anything over & above what my union insurance coverage is.

So far AOPA (Minnesota life) seems to be the winner.
I had assumed you guy's had already tackled this and had some answers. AOPA seemed to be the best for my Maule as well.
I am soon going to pick up the ferry pilot duties. Flying across the north atlantic has me nervous enough to buy life insurance
