lifting eyes

Have you modified your aircraft? STC? STOL Kit? Major rebuild from just a data plate?

lifting eyes

I'm wondering about lifting eyes on cessna floatplanes. I'm assuming that there's 4, & that they're mounted to the forward & aft spar carry-throughs?

lifting eyes

Yes, that's correct. I only use the forward eyes when doing a gear swap and support the tail with a stand.

I believe the holes for the eyebolts will only be there if the plane has a factory seaplane kit.

Depends on the model. The 170, and I believe the 172 only had the forward eyes. 180/185 had four.

This feature was only installed on seaplane kit equipped aircraft.

You can lift by the spar attach points, IF you remove the wing root fairings.

DO NOT try to lift ANY airplane by the lifting eyes without a spreader bar. Failure to use a spreader bar may result in serious structural damage. I once saw a fishing crew on a boat basically destroy a nearly new Super Cub, lifting it by the lifting rings, without using a spreader bar.

Re: lifting eyes

My C-172 1961 C came from Alaska with lifting eyes installed. Never on floats, but wrecked with 200 hours on it. I assumed the eyes where for recovery. There are two only. Used them to lift myself up to check fuel and to anchor my wing covers.

My C150 only has wingroot fairings on the bottom (like most if not all of the cessna's I've ever seen). No access from above to the spar attach on those.
