Flew out to Little Goose a Washington state airstrip last weekend. Once I got out of the dank of the wet side, it was great weather. Bumped in to Brent (a bcp member) in Prosser while re-fueling. Didn't have much time to visit as I wanted to get to the 'goose before the winds picked up too much. Paddled around a bit on the river. The winds kept me from venturing too far afield. Almost stepped on a rattle snake while looking at a nice flowering plant. Nothing like a shot of adrenalin welling from deep withing the lizard part of the brain to perk one up.
I think Little Goose has great potential as a recreational site. The downside is that camping on the airstrip itself is discouraged in favor of camping at "little goose landing". The campground was a few RV type pull offs with fire pits and a bit of a walk from the tie-down area. Hard to carry gear all that way. If they put in a few camp sites, tables, and fire pits near the tiedown, it would be a pretty good spot, I think. Easy access to the water would make it even better. I sent my comments onto Paul Wolf at the aviation division.
One of my main goals was to fly over and, hopefully, land at the family farm. Established in the late 1800's it spans multiple generations. Lots of sentimental value tied up in the place but, as a farm, not tremendously successful. It's tiny by today's farm standards. The promise of wind power has breathed new life into the place. I was stoked to be able to land on the hilltop and the video, no doubt, means a lot more to me than anyone outside the family. Still, it would be difficult to make flying to the farm itself a practical venture at this time.
About 15 minutes. Enjoy.
