There's a DC 6 on a hill north of Fairbanks that was moved there as a home

Re: Living in a 727...

Wonder how one would move a 727 from the airport to the homesite? Surely it wasn't taxiied down the road.... And then there are the code issues, like hooking up the water/electric etc. Interesting idea, though.

This guy evidently heard the old saying, "You can sleep in your plane, but you can't fly your house". But he kind of missed the part about flying your plane...

Re: Living in a 727...

An interesting idea for sure, but...

Love airplanes though I do, that is, to me, an altogether repellent living space. I've lived in trailers that I quite prefer over that residence.

I've seen another video of the same airplane-house in which the owner goes on and on about the absurdity of wood as a building material compared to his marvelous aluminum home, all the while ignoring the fact that his airplane is held up on all three points with wooden shoring.

I've also read documentaries on the refurbishing of airliners, and one of the more interesting points is that there is nothing even remotely sanitary about them. Lots of spilled food dripping down into the airframe, and LOTS of bodily fluids coagulating under the lavatories...

To each his own of course...but unique doesn't always translate to desirable, and eccentric doesn't always mean brilliant.

Re: Living in a 727...

Yeah, my first thought, before I even saw the inside (and then even more so), was if I somehow ended up with that on my property, I'd wait for a cyclical up swing in scrap aluminum, and bang, it'd be turned into cash. Then I'd built a much more energy efficient and comfy space, that wouldn't raise the eyebrows of the local building inspectors/health inspectors/plumbing inspectors, etc., that would also add to my property value rather then trash it. More power to him though!

In this day of composite this and composite that, wood holds its own as a residential building material. It's an amazing material really, and "they" are making more all the time.

The Spruce Goose would work. It's really big, you get that cool neoclassic airplane architecture, the luxurious warmth that only wood can provide, and built in flood protection worthy of the coming el nino...

Wood is the original "renewable resource". The tree-huggers don't seem to realize that, they think that a clear-cut is forever.

Re: Living in a 727...

Certainly unique but after spending 14 years flying 727's I don't think I would want to live in one.
