It does look dumb but kinda cool as well. Everyone's mission is different. Personally, I think that 180's and 185's with little tires wheel pants look pretty dumb.

Ever seen Kazoom? Another big tall plane but sure looks cool in my opinion.

With a set up like this he has no desire for the rough stuff. This purely for Valdez.

Used to see it all the time out my window when I worked at CC, he'd practice all day long. Freaking crazy!

I know the guy that recorded and posted that first one to YouTube. He was kindly asked to remove it by either the pilot or a friend of the pilot, as he did not want trouble from any powers that be.

What is the advantage of the extreem tall landing gear?

Allows the airplane to land at a higher angle relative to the ground. Also, as demonstrated in the video, it helps you crash your airplane :)

IMHO, A better use for the extra long gear is take off...

I believe that the idea is for when they are doing the shortfield contest in Valdez. If you look at the videos from last year, the black and orange cub went so far as removing his tail wheel (the story changes depending on who you talk to about that one), but my guess is the extra long gear is to give him the ability to yank the stick back without hitting the tail against the ground like so many do.

That's like doing a 2' lift to a pickup--turns a perfectly good vehicle into an attention getting useless monstrosity.

One of the things I love about aviation in the States is the innovation and 'can do' attitude...pity this guy's has ended up plastered on a web site and then posted here so all the experts can do the Monday morning quarter back routine.

Just couldn't bring myself to post someones pride and joy like that. The original poster took it down for a reason.

Yea, feel bad, that's a very cool plane that's made to be the absolute best at something and he's sure out there doing it.... I have a lot of respect for the guy.

And now the new version has music added and plays an advertisement before the actual video plays.

That's the second one. My buddy doesn't want any involvement after the owner asked him to take it down. I think he actually deleted the footage he had. It was from the threshold of the runway, so a different angle altogether.

I made a smartass comment about the guy profiting from the video on Youtube, and he deleted my comment.

If you have a mishap like this in public, you're pooched these days.
