Looking for a Ride

Still working on my PPL, zero time in a tail dragger. Wanted to ask if anyone flies in the southern California area. Im looking to ride along on some grass/dirt landings . Willing to pay the fuel bill, wash the plane, barbeque for you....what ever.
Im planning on going this route as soon as I get my license and want to just get some fun in

Also looking for a ride to High Sierra fly in . I will have my ticket by then. If I cant fly there I will be driving/camping in my truck so I can bring fuel if I go that route

Thanks

Re: Looking for a Ride

Best thing to do is go buy a taildragger and learn to fly in it...Will take longer, but you'll be a better pilot....I bought a new Maule in 1985 for $29K and then accumulated 1800 hours before flying a nosegear..

Re: Looking for a Ride

I was/am in the same boat here in Colorado. If you can afford it, I would buy a tailwheel plane and learn in it as well! I asked this same question and got some great responses and have meet some awesome people. I have been up many times and have become good friends with a pilot from here.

good luck! maybe you can save me a parking spot (camper probably) for next HSF

also good luck on your ticket, 30hrs here.

Re: Looking for a Ride

Got an Instructor for my Tail wheel endorsement, but got to finish my PPL first. Talked Saturday with the guy who will be teaching me. Dave Derby at KSEE . Has two Citabria's . Get my first ride in one March 30th. Already looking at Trade-a-plane, Barnstormers and Controller

Just need to get that check ride done

That pic is Hollywood Chute on Red Cone Bowl in the Mammoth Lakes area

Another Question- Thoughts on a Cessna 140 I have been told its too underpowered , don't even look at one

Second Question - Outdoor storage. I don't think I can swing the cost of a plane and hangar. Is owning a Citabria out of the question if it sits outdoors? In Southern California?
Stay with a metal wing if storing outdoors?

Look for one with a bigger engine. There’s a guy named Dustin down in Tehatchapi (flying fiddler here on BCP I think) who does a whole lot of awesome flying in his 120. He has an O-200 though which helps out a little.

I have a few hundred hours in my dad’s 120 with a 125hp O-290 and it’s a great performing little airplane.

There always seems to be a few 120/140s for sale with either an O-200, O-235, or O-290. If you can pick one up for cheap (which you usually can) I certainly wouldn’t rule one out.
