Looking for some nice strips around the oregon area
A general forum for anything related to flying the backcountry. Please check first if your new topic fits better into a more specific forum before posting.
In 2 weeks I plan on doing a trip up from SO CAL to Portland for a couple days.
since the Santa Ana area I fly out of doesn't really have any great semi back country
and grass strips, I'd like to do some of that type of flying. I fly a Mooney so that limits
probably a decent chunk of the strips out. I'm really just looking for some fun strips to go
to. As of now i have these airports planed. the only type of back country I've flown was to Amboy
so I'd like to have some rather easier strips. I know the Mooney isn't a bush plane, and I don't plan on
treating it like that, but I'd like to step a little out of the norm.

Toketee is perfect for you. I took the Comanche in there with 4 people and baggage. There are a few pictures in the AIRPORTS, AIRSTRIPS, AND LANDING ZONES area.
S37, Nehalem Bay State is also very nice. Camp sites just for flyin. Showers and beach access across the road.
McKenzie State is also a nice spot. Perfect day trip. Some road noise for camping.
Ranger Creek in Washington has nice scenery. Paved. I've never camped there.
Tieton State Wa. is cool. Mixed reviews on camping. Watch the DA. There is at least one plane in the lake.

KPFC - Pacific City and R33 - Wakonda Beach Airport (grass) are both really close to the beach. Pacific City has a nice walk up to Cape Kiwanda.
05S - Vernonia is a pubic glass strip with a nice park and golf course nearby
6S6 - Powers airport - nice grass strip near the town of powers. Better when the weather is warmer for swimming.
4S6 Tieton state, 21W Ranger Creek, and 55S Packwood are all in the same area. Both Ranger Creek and Packwood are paved. Strom 39P is also nearby. There is a great greasy burger place a short walk into the town of Morton.
4S2 - Jernstedt airfield has a nice museum and a courtesy car. You can fly through the gorge which is beautiful - It's paved.
S21 - Sunriver is a nice paved strip a short distance from a resort town. They have a courtesy van/shuttle and a bunch of free for rent bikes to take into town.
