Great Idea !!! Not too many true backcountry strips in Buckeye Land, but here in Ohio its flat enough that most any hay field is a landing strip. Best fun is between cuttings and drop in to see friends working in the fields. Warning! Dont land in fields with windrows.....Blows them all to heck and can flip you over. Also watch for groundhog holes... they eat tailwheels. Rick

Grew up in Grants Pass, Oregon. My whole family is still there, as well as our hangar at the airport. I live and work in Reno, NV, and try to get home to OR often.

Great site Zane! There are three things I have learned (the hard way) You can never criticize a man's (or a ladies) decision of spouse, dog or airplane as they are all based on emotion no matter what they say or fly. But sharing a pastime is Great putting the poitics aside and focusing on what drives most us! I see many from Wa. I think a get together is mandatory. Also, it should help to send out a quick SOS for fields that may need help or be threatend. Good job and good luck.

Yellowmaule,
I too noticed the number of members in Washington. I think a Washington group meet 'n greet should definitely be planned for the Spring/Summer. I live on a 1350' grass strip on Whidbey Island and right now I'm looking out the office window at a frozen pond and white stuff falling. Come on Spring!
Fatcub,
That's a great shot of your 12. Where's that taken.

Yellowmaule,
I'm directly west of the Oak Harbor airport a few miles. It's 1350 grass. There are really tall trees (and my house) at the east end, so it's pretty much one way in and out to have any safety margin. With Winter, the grass hasn't been mowed in about six weeks and it's pretty soggy right now.
Gunny,
I'm actually in between rides right now but I've wanted to build a Bushmaster since I saw one of Jake Bryant's Producers in Anchorage back in 1982. There are a lot of features of that aircraft that I think make it a tremendous off airport camping/cargo ship. I've got a lot of ideas on how I would build one and I'd enjoy talking to you about it sometime. Doesn't Mike Butterfield have one?

bushmaster, I think I landed at your place a few years ago. I was out over Smith Island in my Luscombe and lost oil preasure so headed for Oak Harbor. I slowed down and pitched up and got oil preasure again, but wanted to get on the ground quick so when I saw your strip I landed and put in a quart of oil. every now and then that engine would just puke all the oil out the breather, then would go along just fine for a time. But that was it, I took it home and pulled the engine out so I wouldn't be tempted to fly it. Never had a problem after the major. I had already put on new Melinum cyclenders trying to fix it, but that didn't help. Thanks for your strip. Ron

Your word is a lamp unto my feet and a light unto my path. Ps. 119:105
Dave:
1350' & west of Oak Harbor/Lupien-- is that the strip with the Stinson 10A based on it? Is or was that your airplane?
