Looks like some fun, and instruction

Just stumbled accross this site. Looks like you could have quite an adventure, and hone your skills. Might not be much more than going to Idaho(depending on where you live), and you get to use their plane. :)

If you want to go up, pull back on the controls. If you want to go down, pull back farther.

Looks like fun! Very reasonable price with the lodging.

I did my seaplane rating with Don and crew. Great outfit and lots of fun! They were just building the lodge when I was there, so I haven't seen it. Nice folks and very talented.

I did my ASES with Don and Esther. She made it difficult to concentrate on the task at hand! very attractive! Was a great time and the lodge is really neat, although cozy. Don had just gotten the footings poured for his hangar, just before some new zoning had gone into affect!

My opinion if you go. Don is not the best scheduler and you have to be at the dock, headset in hand or someone else may get your slot. All of his time tables change. While I was there, there was a rotation of about 7-8 people, 4-5 onsite and 2-3 people from around the area. That piper didn't get much rest while I was there, sun up to sun down.

Don popped his pattelar tendon the last day I was there. It was pretty nasty. I said good-bye as we set him in his wifes rig to go to the hospital...

It was great fun and I would recommend it to anyone... Plan to stay and extra day to enjoy it, I didn't and I will certainly have to go back......

I was up there a few years ago, and flew with Don and two others.
I flew with Alex Clark out of Homer, which was a blast. He took me to some really neat places. If anyone every takes a trip to AK and wants to take a scenic flight and get to do the flying (or get their float rating), I highly recommend the drive to Homer to fly with Alex. He has a nice little cabin you can stay in. It was an awesome flight, Homer is a nice place too.

Also flew with Hermann Ruess out of Lake Hood, who was a great instructor, but you better be ready to work your butt off getting everything perfect if you go up with him, and it's strictly instruction only, no scenic flights with Hermann. But never the less a great instructor, I enjoyed flying with him.

Last flight was with Don Lee out of Talkeetna. If you fly with Don you can take a flight around Mount McKinley where you get to do the flying (or you can get your float rating), which was great. After our flight around the mountain we did some fun low level exercisers as well as float stuff. It was a really fun flight, but a little more pricey than the others.

I think I enjoyed flying the Cub in Homer with Alex the most. There is nothing better than flying around with the door open, in a cub, in AK, in the Summer. But you can't go wrong with any of the above people.
