Lord Flat

Anyone know anything about Lord Flat airstrip? The only reference I can find is the Fly Idaho book. Looks like a good high sunset watching spot. Anyone know a good sunset watching spot otherwise. I'd like to get up out of the holes.

Re: Lord Flat

I've flown over Lord Flat, but never landed. I was looking for the airstrip and didn't see it, so it may not be very well maintained.

Memaloose is in the same area, and it's higher and would give a better view of the sunset.

Re: Lord Flat

Lord Flat is essentially a flat area encompassing a two track road which goes along a ridge. The ridge is located where the Imnaha River empties into Hell's Canyon and is one ridge to the west of the Snake. There are actually large white edge markers that denote the runway but these can frequently be missed because of the tall grass during the summer. The two track can sometimes be rutted if someone has driven the road too early or late in the season when things are a bit muddy. I have taken a 182 in there with 6's on the mains and a 5 on the nose without problems but conditions can vary. Realize though that this is essentially at the doorstep to Joseph and therefore a very high density of bushwheel tires. Locals may think your plane is sickly if you have anything smaller than 8.50s :D If you walk up the road to the tree line there are several farm implements and other evidence of the previous ranch. Although the road is there, I have only seen a vehicle once during hunting season. Is a much more isolated than Memaloose with it's surrounding cabins.

Re: Lord Flat

If you get down into NE Utah, Cedar mountain is a good strip with a great view for sunset or sunrise. A pretty good campsite or two on the west side of rwy about midpoint. Rwy is in good condition. 39 22.458 N, 110 34.338W

Also, Dolores Point is good. It is in the same general area. 38 42.115 N, 109 02.602 W Rwy is great. Not as nice for camping though.

As I recall, both are over 7000'
