Day 2 got us to Twin Falls Idaho. The internet sucked but Motel 6 was nice with a fresh remodel. $49.00 a night. This morning we set out early for Cedar City. Did some nice back roads.

Day 4 Zion NP. Left at 9:30 after the motel breakfast, which was not to bad. It was 66* in Cedar City when we headed out. We had a high temp of 94* and 61* up at 9600' on SR 14. This part of Utah is as pretty as anywhere I have been.

Re: Low and slow

Hey Rob

Looks like a great trip. My house is at 8200 ft on the mountain above Cedar City. You're right about Hwy 14 and if you went to Bryce, you got a dose of Hwy 12 too. It just gets better past Bryce and doesn't stop being jaw dropping until you get to Moab! Utah backcountry roads are terrific. If your bikes could take 100 miles of this:

Image

you could enjoy some of this... 3000 feet to the Colorado River from the North Rim - no tour buses, no guard rails, no safety nets. Just the way it was meant to be.

Image

I'd join the crowd saying you shoulda stopped in, but heck, I'm not there. :D I'm on my way back from Colorado. Maybe next time?

Re: Low and slow

Day 6 Left Cedar City for Mammoth Lakes. High speed across the desert.

These signs are across the street from each other. California full of bullet holes. Nevada not.

Did the ET hiway. Saw 5 cars the whole 98 miles. No gas for 148 miles.

Day 7 Mammoth Lakes to Sonora, Ca. Windy, twisty, roller coaster, big time fun! California 108 Sonora Pass WOW!!

Now for my rant. Don't ever waste your time to do the Devils Post Pile National Monument. First the feds charge us $10.00 to ride down a old logging road to get to the DPPNM. It is a very pretty place, but the road sucks and we paid for it a 100X buy the timber that came out of the area. Rip off.
Image

The feds are way out of control.Look at these rules.

Do you think I unloaded and disassembled my Glock 45? It was out of site.

Tomorrow Sonora to Susanville on SR49 more tight corners.

Re: Low and slow

you can get hosed pretty bad in the national parks, not to mention the ridiculous rules... But I found one benny in gettin old... at 60 you can purchase a senior pass for 10 bucks.. gives you lifetime free entry for you and anyone in your vehicle, or on your motorcycle, to all national parks and federal rec lands where there is a entry fee. I got one before my trip this summer and it saved us over 100 bucks gettin into Jellystone park and a couple others.... :D
