Lucky Shoes?

Am I the only one that has luck shoes? Or maybe for you it is a luck hat? I feel like I can fly better with my old worn out tennis shoes on. Any other foibles out there?

Re: Lucky Shoes?

When I was first learning to fly in a Cherokee, my landings were pretty bad. My instructor suggested I sit on a pillow to get a better view. Suddenly my landings improved, and for years after I used that same pillow. Called it my "Lucky Landing Pillow."

Now that I fly a Supercub, nothing helps, even my "Lucky Landing Cap."

Baloney is still baloney, no matter how thin you slice it.

Re: Lucky Shoes?

Dog is my co-pilot, and he brings me great luck. He's usually in the back seat of the 172, and I reach back and pet him regularly to keep the engine from self-destructing. So far, so good!

Well, except the time I left him home and took two women on a flight from Lewiston, ID, to Joseph, OR. We hit a big bump of air as we were crossing the breaks of the Grand Ronde river, and I reached back to pat him. I heard a scream and realized that not only does your dog bring you good luck, the absence of your dog brings you bad luck.

Hah, Hah. Maybe you petted something more private than the dog's head.

That reminds me of a joke my Mom told me.

A guy arrives at work with two black eyes. His work-mates ask how he got them. "Well", he says, "I got on the elevator and noticed this lady in front of me with her dress stuck in her butt-crack. Thinking this might be uncomfortable, I gently pulled the dress out of her crack. That's when she slugged me in the right eye". The work-mate asks about the other eye. "Well, thinking she must have liked the dress up her crack, I tried to tuck it back in".

Re: Lucky Shoes?

I have a 25 plus years old pair of light casual shoes I wear. They're basically shot but still work the rudder pedals of the 180 pretty well. Would be scared to wear my clod hopper hiking boots with lots of tread and no "feel".

I want to know more! Does Jesus like to see where he is going, or does he keep his eye on the pilot?

Re: Lucky Shoes?

My grandfather always used to carry a Morgan silver dollar in his pocket. In 1976 I put one of the Bicentennial dollars in mine and it lives there. There is now only a general shape of Eisenhower on the obverse and the outline of the Liberty Bell and Moon on the reverse.......sure worn down after 34 years......lol. Wouldn't leave home without it.

Tom, here is a link where you can get your own Dashboard Jesus.

http://www.amazon.com/Accoutrements-Dashboard-Jesus/dp/B000CIS34U

According to the official song (yes, there is an official song) he sits facing you so he can keep an eye on you.

Re: Lucky Shoes?

HI
I know you are talking about lucky shoe but how about other lucky ' Quirks''? I would always wipe both my palms on my pants legs and say" hope I do not have a problem" out loud and hopefully so no one hears. It has always worked except for the one time I forgot to say it and I have been doing that for 20 years.

Re: Lucky Shoes?

Too funny!

I have a pair of Adidas running shoes that I "modified" with a hack-saw so I could fit them on the rudder pedals in the J3 I was taking tailwheel instruction in. To this day I feel very uncomfortable (and usually embarass myself) if I don't have my "dancing shoes" on.

Oh, and I have a hand-wiping habit too....

Re: Lucky Shoes?

Nope, nothing like that. Just before every landing, like on downwind I sit up straight and kick the pedals back and forth a few times. The tighter the landing spot the straighter I sit and the more tail wriggling I do.

I do the same thing with the addition sliding the ball of my feet to the center of the rudder pedal...hasn't failed me yet.

Re: Lucky Shoes?

Taught my son to fly many years ago. During the start of his first approach to landing he shifted his rear end from side to side twice. Asked him why, he said for good luck, after all these years he continues to do it on every landing. Hasn't failed to work for him yet!! Lots of fun teasing him about it.

I ALWAYS carry my lucky rope, it was the hang rope (pilot attach point) for my first hang glider, in 1972......Its perfect for tieing down the tailwheel.

I'm still looking for a luck charm, but so far I'm a fan of the ass wiggle and foot shuffle on short final.
