Lycoming IO-360 oil leak
Lycoming, Continental, Hartzell, McCauley, or any broad spectrum drive system component used on multiple type.
I am dealing with an oil leak from the oil filter adapter to the case. The engine has 15 hrs. since teardown to replace the cam. Time since last overhaul is 105 hrs. At the teardown the engine was completley disassembled and the main bearings, pistons, rings, lifters, cam etc. were replaced and the cylinders were honed. The work was done by a reputable shop and it runs like a watch. Unfortunately it is leaking oil at the bottom of the oil filter adapter where it mounts the the case. Under the advice and supervision of the mechanic that installed the engine, I removed the adapter and thoroughly cleaned off the old gasket, replaced it with a new one using loctite 515 on both sides, reinstalled and tourqued to 90 inch pounds. It still leaks from the same spot. It never leaked a drop before the teardown. I am not sure what's going on, possibly it was overtorqued and now has a crack or is warped? Any advice in fixing this would be appreciated.

Is it leaking from the stud or from between the mating surfaces? Did you check mating surfaces with a straight edge while it was off?

It appears to be coming from the bottom center of the mating surfaces. The mechanic told me to bring him the adapter once it was removed and the old gasket cleaned offf so he could check it with a straight edge. He looked at it and said it looked fine and never checked with the straight edge.
