Mackay Bar - Idaho

Just got this reply from the guys at Mackay Bar:

You are welcome to fly in at any time; we do recommend you get checked out
with an experienced pilot on the airstrip if you don't have much back
country time. We like at least a days notice if you would like to eat or
spend the night.Hope to see you sometime.

Re: Mackay Bar - Idaho

I have spring break during the last week of March and am thinking about taking a few days and heading to Hell's canyon and stopping by Mackay and Wilson.

Re: Mackay Bar - Idaho

We had breakfast there this morning and it was great. They ask that you email or call so they know you're coming if possible. They haven't had many fly-in customers, so with a little warning, they'll be ready for you. Phone connections aren't good, but they told me email is a sure fire way to let them know. I called them yesterday and when we got there, they had chased all the geese off the runway, shut the water off, and had breakfast ready.

Great stop

Re: Mackay Bar - Idaho

Mackay Bar is under new ownership! I stopped in last week, and met the new owners, Don and Andrea Betzold. They have been in for the season for a little over a week and getting ready for the upcoming season. Plans are to offer similar services as before and welcome pilots to stop in. Their website is in construction and will be mackaybarguestranch.com and their email is [email protected]. They seem to be very congenial and eager to please.

BTW, on 2/11/11, the strip was clear of snow. Send them an email and they'll fix you up with breakfast. As of right now, drop-ins are welcome, but its always nice to warn them, get status update, and get the heat on. Elk, sheep, and geese are sure to be seen now. They intend to have the airplane camping area open again, and the tepee up shortly.

Re: Mackay Bar - Idaho

Was looking for a place to take my wife this weekend and found this on facebook:

We are happy to announce the new owners of Mackay Bar: Buck & Joni (and their son, Dax). Buck and Joni will be the new owners of Mackay Bar starting January 1st. Check out their new website: http://www.mackaybarranch.com/.

Hope not much changes. Noticed that the cost for tent camping is listed at $35/night, I think the previous owners had the same price listed but I was under the impression they never actually charged anyone.
