Made a new snow groomer

I maintain a private ski strip in winter and a number of x-c ski trails for my own use. For years I've used a drag that I made out of chain link fence, pipe and chain. It does great in certain conditions, but other times it loads up with snow, reduces cornering, and puts up berms on the sides of each pass. This season I made a roller out of an old propane cylinder. This is just a prototype to see how it would work. So far it's been very nice to use. Much better cornering, no berms, and doesn't displace any snow or dig up any gravel when you have thin cover and no base. I'm hoping it will also help tamp new snow down so it doesn't just blow away when the wind inevitably picks up.
Come on winter... bring it!

Re: Made a new snow groomer

Looks pretty sweet Simon. I need something just like that to pack down my driveway before I start snow plowing it. I end up moving a lot of my gravel out of the yard and into the ditch, where it doesn't belong.
And I also say BRING IT ON SNOW GODS. Last two years have sucked for snow on the peninsula.

Cheers 8)

Looks great! Can't believe you have that much snow already, lucky SOB. I'm itching to get the skis on the 180, but no snow yet.

Re: Made a new snow groomer

That looks like a good idea Denali. I have an extensive trail system set up in the bush and always groom a couple of miles of trail part way around our lake for skiing. I have been pulling an old set of single bed springs, but have run into the same problem, at times like you mentioned (the lake really blows in bad). I need to do some measuring to see if there is enough clearance on all my trails to get a 100 pounder through some of the tighter spots. If you have not visited the Ski-Doo forums http://www.dootalk.com/forums/ there have been different groomers posted there at times. Thank you for the idea.
