Has anyone installed Madras droop tips on the sportsman stol leading edge? Steine aviation said it can be done with a little "modifying". Anyone have any experience with this?

Why do you want those? Have not heard very good things about them. In fact most end up cutting them off, so I have heard.

I use them on all them on all 3 of my '57 cessna 182's. I started with standard tips on my first two 182's, the 3rd one I bought already had madras droop tips and we saw an improvement right away. We feel that it slightly improves climb, noticeably helps handling at lower airspeeds. The only down side I've seen is slightly slower in decent (more drag). I'm interested to see how they perform on the '75 model I'm building up now....

Any fiberglass wingtip designed for a stock wing can be made to fit a Sportsman cuff. A little cutting and fitting, and a little fiberglass work on the leading edge of the tip, and you're done.

Where did you find them, are they available again?
Put them on a Stinson and an Older Bo. Loved them.
If anyone has some lying around, I would be interested in them, would like to put them on my Glastar when I get it done.

I tried to buy the entire "Ace Deamers -Madras Super Tips " STC- and etc. years ago when old "Ace" passed away . His 2 boys inherited the Business .State of Oregon in there environmental frieze said original stc fiberglass process had to be changed -costing many thousands of $$$$. I offered to buy everything - I had some on my 182 and loved them .When I put on my SPORTSMAN I went to the old standard tips/molded for SPORTSMAN leading edge.Talked to Will Steen and he told they had some aircraft with the Madras tips.I've had some 2 dozen pairs and would love to produce them for everyone.
Madras "Super Tips" are occasionally on ebay for 100-200 bucks-They work exceptionally well .Worst Part is the hanging down tips get in way ,slightly less visibility out the side.In cross wind they can be a bear to make good landings.Sky Dive birds here at Boulder had sets on all there 182/ 206's and claimed another 2-3 hundred min. climb increase .I love the SPORTSMAN but if I didn't have that I'd get a pair of Madras Super tips .

I have the Madras droopy tips on my P172D. Compared to a stock older 172, they give better, more positive control at lower airspeeds. They do add drag, so that they will reduce the cruise speed a little--I estimate by 5 or 6 knots--but there's nothing quick about a 172 anyway. And they do hang down far enough to block vision just a little. If they weren't already on the airplane when I bought her 8 1/2 years ago, I doubt that I would have known about their benefits--I'd seen them on other airplanes but hadn't ever discussed them with the owners. But having flown them now for some 450 or more hours, I can certainly recommend them.
