7 plus isn’t that unusual in that part of the world. The biggest risk is tsunami. That’s scary stuff.

The quake was way down on the Alaska peninsula near Cold Bay. Closest town (pop 900) is about 70 miles away. From the news reports, no significant damage locally. Up here in the Anchorage area, it wasn't felt at all.

When I lived in Cold Bay, we had an 8.4 or so 50 miles or so south of CDB in the Pacific. The concern was with a tsunami up the peninsula and on some of the islands, like Kodiak. But no wave that time, fortunately.
In the 64 earthquake, which was a 9.2, Kodiak was hit hard by the ensuing wave. Several communities were wiped out.

Was a smooth rocker here in King Salmon, 300 miles away from the epicenter. Enough to make you notice if you were standing still, but not a hard jolt, so people walking or driving would likely not even know it happened.
