Mann Lake is a few miles north of the Alvord Desert Hot Spring on the same gravel road. Has anybody landed there and do you know if the power lines are on the road or just near the road.

I have heard that the fishing is good in April.

It has been a long time since I have been to Mann Lake in Oregon and have never flown there before. I can tell you when the fishing is good it can be really good. I recall catching/releasing large numbers of 18 - 22 inchers. Lot's of fun when you are used to carching 14 inch hatchery rainbows

It shouldn't be a problem. I flew out that way with another pilot about 4 or 5 years ago. He said he'd landed on the road.

I haven't been there in a couple of years. The road should be no problem. I kind of remember a cow fence along the road, and a cattle guard at the gate, near the road. The gate posts may be too high even for a high wing plane, though. The little road that runs around the north end of lake is pretty rough.

Easy day trip in my Bronco from Boise. I'll see how the Wx and a few other things pan out next weekend.

Watch the wind at Mann Lake; it can come up fairly quickly and really howl. Was camped there once in September and it came up in the evening and blew all night and blew our tent down and the sand was flying like a sandblaster. You would have really needed good tiedowns. Not trying to be negative at all, just be aware of what can happen. Maybe spring is not as bad as fall.

Rome service station is only 40 miles to the East if you need (and can take) car gas. We always land there on the way back from Owyhee. I'd love to hear how you trip goes. looks like maybe you could land on the lake shore if it's not too steep.

UPDATE

Kind of cloudy this morning. The ground troops are in Klamath Falls, OR now and will call be when they get to Lakeview. I will call Denio Juncion at 8 AM to get an update then make a decision.

I didn't make it down there, Tim. I almost did, but stayed local instead. Glad I did, saw a bunch of deer, a good size herd of Elk, wild turkey, and more quail than you can shake a stick at up in them hills north of Emmett. I wanted to get a shot on a "yote" stalking a small herd of deer. But it was on "Private Property - No Hunting" and the deer was right behind the "yote".

You might get to Mann Lake sooner than me. But I may try to go down there in June.
