Maple Island (Carry Falls Reservoir)

Hey guys,

I have my days off coming up here, and I wanted to finally get some float time in since most of the ice is gone, figured take my girl and my pup out for some camping and fishing.

One of my friends (not a pilot though) said I should check out Carry Falls he was just canoeing there and reported it was nice, nothing floating and just a fun and quiet spot.

Does anyone have any experience with float ops at Carry Falls Reservoir, probably beaching on Maple Island?

I see it's listed in the seaplane directory, but no other info.

From the different satellite pics and the paddling website write up, it looks like a nice gradual sandy beach, 1,355MSL, nothing too crazy.

Figured probably end up landing SW between the northern island and the lower ones based on the contour map of where the deeper water is and our normal winds.

Right now my thought was to get somewhat shallow, ICO, and hop off and pull her in beaching nose out wheels up as the sand doesn't look like it'll make a mess of my painted Edos.

Maybe try my luck at catching vs just fishing too :)

Thoughts?

Thanks

Looks like it's a very gradual drop off to the deep water

That's where my user photo is taken. I camp there often, approach from the West, sandy beaches with some large rocks on the approach in shallow water they can hide well....I was under the impression that it was called Radio Island. I just landed the cub out there on the bushhweels this week. Most of the beaches are still under ice. Call me with any other questions

Thanks for the info Mike, I'll give ya a call, I'd like to do some float flying now that it seems our weather is getting more into spring mode.

Still frozen by the shores eh...

I got the Maple Island name from the topos, maybe it goes by a few names, hard to tell with some of the little islands around here.
