Massive TFR in Sacramento on Sept 21st

It's centered over Mclellan and looks to be about a 50NM ring from the surface to 5000 on Friday. It's for the space shuttle Endeavour that they are toting around on the back of the 747. I counted 30 strips on the chart within in the ring that will all be grounded while this is going on. Seems a bit excessive to me. Please check notams if you plan on flying Friday.

Not completely grounded. From the text:

AIRCRAFT ON VFR FLIGHT PLANS THAT ARE ON AN ATC ASSIGNED DISCRETE BEACON CODE AND IN TWO WAY COMMUNICATION WITH ATC. 3. APPROVED LAW ENFORCEMENT, FIRE FIGHTING AND MEDEVAC/AIR AMBULANCE FLIGHTS, CONTACT ATC IMMEDIATELY WHEN AIRBORNE. 4. PILOTS ARE ENCOURAGED TO CHECK NOTAMS FREQUENTLY FOR CHANGES TO PUBLISHED NOTAM TIMES. NCT TMU, PHONE 916-366-4080, IS THE POINT OF CONTACT. THE NORTHERN CALIFORNIA /NCT/ TRACON, PHONE 916-366-4019, IS THE COORDINATION FACILITY."

Agreed not as bad as the Obama campaigning at taxpayers expense in my 747 but you can bet a bunch of HUA pilots without briefings will be frolicking about. I wonder if the Hot Pink Comanche from Nut Tree will be up  Haha, hey Avid why do they call that airport Nut Tree anyway :D

Good thing I'm leaving for Idaho Thursday early.......

TFR's are bad enough with Obama's panhandling.....

And I thought Mandela was greedy...

That should to give you libs something to complain about :)

I'll be back in six days to wallow through the pissin' and moaning".....

Fish on....

Re: Massive TFR in Sacramento on Sept 21st

Duration: 1.5 hrs.

I could be wrong, but perhaps this is one TFR that is somewhat justified. What's the maneuverability of that 747 with a space shuttle on its back, anyway? Normal IFR traffic gets a certain amout of spacing and separation, but maybe this beast requires more? I dunno, most heavy traffic doesn't get much special treatment.

I wonder if these types of TFRs are as heavily enforced as the VIP variety?

Re: Massive TFR in Sacramento on Sept 21st

Just to clarify I wasn't' really complaining. I seen the duration. I was just trying to spread the word. I've seen the shuttle on the back of the 747 land before and it's really cool to see. I just don't want to see anyone get violated for this. I'll admit I don't check for a TFR over my field every time I'm just going to dink around. The only reason I knew about it is I punched in a course to Sonoma skyranch on Skyvector to see how far away it was and it showed up on there. If I'm going X-country sure but this one will effect a ton of people taking off from their home field.

The Hot Pink Cherokee landed gear up on the taxiway with the airport Notam'd closed for runway painting.

Well 1.5 hours isn't too bad I guess. I heard about the gear up at vcb during the closure. Never heard of a retractable gear Cherokee though? Or was it a Comanche?
