Does anyone have recent information regarding the conditions at May Creek and/or McCarthy. I'm looking to take the family camping this weekend at May Creek with a day trip to McCarthy. We'll be bringing our tent in case the cabin is occupied.

Was just there and will be posting lots of pics and video soon. The strip is totally dry, very smooth. The mosquitoes were in full effect.
The cabin up the trail (public cabin) is super nice. Has 1 double bunk and 1 single and enough floor space for another sleeper.
It's super dry there right now, everything we grabbed for firewood burned like tinder.

Half a century spent proving “it is better to be thought a fool than to open your mouth and remove all doubt.”
Z,
Perfect. Thanks for the update. Looking forward to the pictures. My only concern is that there's not a random mound of dirt for my kids to play on (reference to a trip report from Talkeetna I'm posting this evening).
I may have to pick a different area so I'm not duplicating others' recent adventures.

Great place for family camping! Spent several nights camping at McCarthy and at the May Creek Cabin with my whole family last summer. (See my TR thread for pictures and video). (Edit: I'm a dork. I know you commented on that TR. Sorry!

)
Anyway, lots of mossies at May Creek but the cabin is almost brand new and tight.

In addition to May Creek, can anyone report on conditions at any of the other strips in the park?

All of the strips are in good shape now -- dry and no snow. I live about three miles from May Creek on the North side of the Nizina River. The park service publishes a poster of the more popular strips and cabins at:
http://www.nps.gov/wrst/planyourvisit/u ... ps-Map.pdfAvgas is now available at McCarthy.

Ditto on all. Everything out here is dry and in great shape. Maybe consider Jake's Bar (AKO) for some fun terrain for the kids. Expect some wind and dust around the Chitina/Copper confluence. Most importantly, have fun!
