McCauley 1A175/DM8043

I'm thinking about pulling the trigger on a 80/43 prop for my 170. Do you guys have any recommendations on a prop shop to work with. It's my understanding it only comes from the factory in a 42 pitch and 43 is optimal for a 170.

I'm seeing prices on the Internet for a round $4500. Does that sound right or could I find a better deal? A used one would be great but I hear they are hard to find. Any ideas where to look?

For those currently running that prop what kind of cruise speed are you getting at 2500rpm? I currently have a 76/51 and see 95 knots on the GPS. 80/43 I'm thinking will be around 93 knots, or is it slower?

I think one of these carbon fiber ground adjustable props would be great for the 170.

But it's expermental only  and well, not long enough.

Any tips on where to look and if you think it's worth the $ would be helpful.

That prop is prob the best upgrade I did for my 170. Loved it! Put the 8042 on and you wont look back...

That said, there is a cruise penalty. About 10-15 depending on what tires you are running etc. I had 8.5x10s, and bubble windows with that prop and was cruising about 95mph with the stock engine, but boy could it climb compared to the cruise prop.

That price is expensive.

I have the 80/42 on my 170, I picked it up used with 200 hours on it for $2500. When I still had 8.00x6 tires I cruised at 108mph at 2550rpm, down from 120mph with the 76/53. Now with 26'' bushwheels, baby bushwheel, and stol kit installed it does 105mph on a good day at 2550rpm. Try to get a used prop if you can find one, you'll like it.

I agree with all the above. No idea on current pricing. Plan on a new spinner too- Wag Aero has a nice, affordable PMA'd one.

Re: McCauley 1A175/DM8043

Sounds like I will only lose 2 to 3 knots over what I'm seeing now with the 76 climb prop. I can live with that.

Any recommendations for a prop shop?

I need a new spinner anyway, it's on the list. Bush wheels maybe next summer, for now I feel the climb performance is more important.

The 1A175DM8042 was the best thing I did to my c-145 powered 170. It flew 100mph 2450 if I remember right

Re: McCauley 1A175/DM8043

Years ago I bought my prop from a local shop, then bought the STC from Kenmore Air Harbor I think for $100.

Might be worth giving them a call see if they have a deal for the prop and stc. I noticed there is Wick Air in Palmer, AK that also list an STC for the 1A175DM prop on a 170. Usually the shops just order form Mcacauley when you want one maybe they could order it and ship to you.
