Message from Johnson Creek

Check out the web cam at JC. There is a message stamped out in the snow. http://www.ruralnetwork.net/~yellowpinecm/

At first it looked like "Hel" and I was concerned someone might have been trying to request help but now that the shadows have changed a bit it looks like someone just wants to say"Hey"

Can some figure out how to post the image here so once it snows again this post will still make at least a little sense?

Freezing a webcam moment in time:

1. Save webcam capture to your local machine, on your desktop perhaps... usually this is done by right-clicking with the mouse on the image and selecting Save Image File.

2. Upload saved image file to BCP photo gallery, to the Webcam Captures album.

3. Copy URL of uploaded image, embed in your post.

4. See the How To's and Tutorials section for details on how to accomplish some of the above.

Half a century spent proving “it is better to be thought a fool than to open your mouth and remove all doubt.”

Last year it was" HI" . This is the year of Hey. :)

Not that many year round folks in Yellow Pine. I'm surprised they venture out to JC at all. Although they all get around on Snowmobiles so it's just a fun 5 mile ride. Don't know if Dave Immel has a snow mobile, but he's the unofficial mayor of Yellow Pine. Had many a meal with Dave. ELk Roast the last time I was there. His cabin has many guns lining the walls. I once asked him if they were loaded. Daves reply,"whats the sense of having an unloaded gun". My kind of guy!!!!!

Kif Brown of Yellowpine usually puts his C-185 on skis and keeps it at Johnson Creek all winter. The big problem is snowmobilers tracking up the runway and angling off to the side which will lead an airplane off into the trees or worse. Once you loose airspeed for rudder control on skis, you're almost screwed for directional control without brakes. If you're using a tail ski there may be a slight amount , but it isn't much and there is no braking.

Well in that event i surmise that not many ski equiped folks will be landing at Smiley Creek this winter as the web cam shows the runway looks like a snowmobile dragstrip.

Just a warning to back country travelers. Be careful out there. With all the recent snowfall, a lot of people have been getting whacked by avalanches.

Anybody ski fly into Crescent Lake in winter? I'll post a picture from a recent trip to the area. Driving trip, sorry, I'm fly-ski retarded.

Life is good. Life is better with wings.

Where is Johnson creek? For those that fly in there, what do you use it for?

Idaho, east of McCall. It's often used as a base of operations for those who enjoy flying the Idaho backcountry.

Wow, Mister willie!!! Asking that question is akin to the kid in "Sandlot" asking "who is Babe Ruth?" (Hope all of you saw that movie and know to what I'm referring). Well first of all you gotta get yourself a copy of Hanselmans "Fly Idaho" Then check out the pix of the last fly in there. THen plan a trip this summer, preferrably to include the 27th of June so's we can all meet ya. THen ya gotta put the JC web cam on your Puter so's you can check snow level every day, and who is there in the summer.. THen you'll know where and of what we're talking about....Welcome, by the way.......
