Hey, I know there are a lot of folks here from the Minden area...anyone have anything good or bad to say about Flying Start Aero for flight training? I've decided to knock out my commercial certificate in the next few months and it would be natural to base there for a few days for the prep and checkride with family instead of commuting back and forth to Anchorage from home. Anyone else at MEV doing instruction in a complex aircraft?

a close friend of mine did his private license there. he was happy with the training. i have not heard that they do accelerated training, but maybe they do.
if you decide to do it in minden, i am based there & could show you around the area flying spots.

Flying Start has a Piper Arrow on their line and I believe that is the only complex instruction airplane on the field.
I know they have a competent and friendly staff but haven't flown with them personally. Come on down and we'll
go to the JT for some picons and Basque food!

Now that you are talking food, does Sharkey's still offer an awesome prime rib dinner? Will be in Carson City end of April or first of May for an annual.

Thanks! I need to get over to the airport one of these days and meet folks. I think the Overland is better but I'll go anywhere someone is buying

Thanks! I am keeping an ever-growing list of folks I must meet down there. My wife is from the area and we have family in Carson and Smith Valleys.

Watch out for the "Pecan Punch" cocktail if you go to JT's-it'll take out a grown man.

And for BBQ, including some of the best burgers around, you'll want to stop by Local's BBQ, just past Ihop on the right as you head north into Carson City.
If you want to try you hand at soaring, there's two FBO's, the one I recommend is SoaringNV.
There's still lots of places to land off-airport, but you'll want to avoid the "dry" lakes for now. Many will have a thin crust over the mud this time of year.
