Minnesota to Alpine

I know this is a Backcountry Forum, but when you only have a retract you have to improvise. MY GF and I threw our tent and fly fishing gear into the back of my teany tiny Lancair and flew to Wyoming last weekend. It was one of the those trips where you are not sure where you will go or what you will do. As I topped the mountains all I could think about was being in my Cub. The real reason for the trip was to check Alpine Airpark. We were greeted by the owner BW and had a ball. Cheap fuel, use of truck, and breathtaking views. I stopped by a local fly shop for tips on the hatch and for any pointers. We caught a few small trout in the nearby Greys River after finding a place to walk in. The largest trout was actually caught in the Airpark pond. A HOG-not pictured. Total time out was 4:30 due to a headwind, the flight back was 3:30. Cheapest fuel was in Buffalo WY, ($4.80)
I am hooked on Alpine.

Re: Minnesota to Alpine

3:30 for the flight back? Heck I thought a Lancair was faster then that, the last time I flew that far east I did it in 2.5 days, so wow, that is really hauling. Make any interesting off airport landings on the way

With a plane that fast you could stay in Minnesota and just commute, that is some amazing times enroute. I typically fly the Alpine breakfast route in an hour, but I do screw around a bit on the way, and it is almost 70 miles #-o Nice to see a place I take for granted appreciated, very cool.
