This airplane has an amazing amount of R&D and is nicely done, I just can't help but wonder why a person would look to a "single A arm" suspension system as the basis for "long travel". All that wheel camber would disappear with a top arm. And I'm wondering if in fact the strut / shock, could not be used as the top arm. of course the axel would have to be spindle mounted (weight). Maybe a graphite or billet, king / link pin arrangement?
Again, not knocking the airplane or builder by any means, just wondering if the thought occured to him or not. I consider it regularly as I live in an area teeming with off road vehicles...I know this conversation was hashed out at the Scub.org site... but I think the thread originator ditched the "long travel" concept in favor of the"light weight" concept, hence the Carbon cub.
One more thought on the Porter, I don't think this arrangement on the Porter was primarily done for "travel" although it certainly provides more than a conventional set up, as much as it was designed for strength / reliability over a given weight, but that is purely speculation...
Speedy, glad to see you posting again! you must be getting the bug. I will do my best to instigste
