Mogas, if we get enough folks

There are a lot of folks that can and do use mogas. If we get enough in the west or intermoutain region at feilds that we use we may be able to get some places to sell fuel.

It comes down to hassle verses flow. If we have spots we all go to then getting one, two or more fields to put in mogas should be doable.

What do you guys think, we are a good start here.

Count me in and that is just enough detail. We kind of need them at various entry points into the wilderness.

Caldwell would be nice. They used to have it at Mountain Home. If we all sent them a not, maybe they would bring it back.

LOL,

Ok on the detail.

When I was a ramp rat at Caldwell (longer ago than I care to think) we had it there as well.

Mtn. Home would be good, Fairfield or Corral could work.

Nampa, or the aviation community strip south of Nampa on the river.

Burns, Bend?

Other suggestions?

Rumor has it an FBO at the Olympia airport (KOLM) will be selling
ethanol-free mogas out of a truck soon. They purchased the
truck + tank, filter, hose, all that stuff and are supposed to
be close to selling it soon.

I'll be a regular customer there as soon as they are on-line.

I would love to have some 1/2 to the cost and right on the cost in Oregon, the kids have a great time there.

And there would be a lot more if there was mogas on public use airports and they listed it in AirNav.

No, it comes down the chicken vs. egg. The airports say there isn't enough demand, the pilots say "I'm not getting the STC because there are no airports out here that have mogas."

You need to ask for it everywhere you go. I would advise you to call Arco, ID (KAOC) and talk to the airport manager and tell him you would buy mogas. He has the tank and the pump and his distributor is willing to bring in mogas. (Wow! That is so NOT Oregon. A distributor willing to supply mogas to an airport?) He told me that the city is just dragging their feet to order it ... their checkbook is probably empty. Arco was listed in AirNav a few months ago as having mogas, when Buhl disappeared from AirNav, but the ARCO listing disappeared a few weeks ago, so I called him up to discuss it. Please call him: 208-720-4518

You can get it right now at S30, Lebanon State in the Willamette valley. The FBO owner at LebanAir, Larry Knox is also working on getting mogas on Mulino and Cottage Grove State and he is working on helping Redmond-Air on KRDM to install a mogas pump. You could help us a lot if you would call Amy Anderson, the G-M at Redmond Air, 541-923-1355, and tell her that you would like to see mogas at KRDM and you can tell her Dean told you to call. We are also looking at getting mogas at either John Day (KGCD) or Burns, OR (KBNO)

I talked to the airport manager at John Day today and he was receptive to putting in mogas if there was demand. We are discussing a couple of possible ways of doing it. I would like to get Redmond nailed down first though. Amy is getting the most pushback from her supplier, Exxon, and if we could crack that nut we would know how to proceed with recalcitrant suppliers.

Folks could help us if they were willing to call or email airport managers.

Yes, please tell us who to call.

I also wish you folks would call Castle & Cook, who bought the operation at Arlington, WA (KAWO) and politely tell the person who answers the phone about how disappointed you are in their decision to drop mogas at Arlington, the site of the largest EAA fly-in in the west. You can reach them at: 425-355-6600

You might also email a protest on the Arlington Fly-In web site: http://www.arlingtonflyin.org/Comments. ... ntact%20us

Use the contact box and let them know how you feel about the disappearance of mogas on KAWO. I know it isn't their fault, but I would think they have some clout if anybody does.

I burn car gas myself, but have talked to many pilots who don't and/or won't. I believe us cargas users are in the minority, bigtime. I think that if Flightline Services (or whoever was selling the cargas at Arlington) was selling enough to make money, they wouldn't have quit doing it. Since they already had a dedicated tank & pump, it was cheaper for them than for someone starting now from scratch who has to provide these things- not a cheap deal.
I wish the soon-to-be cargas vendor at OLM luck, I hope it works out for him. If it happens, I'll gas up there when I'm in the area.

I usually fueled at Gowers in Olympia for the 100LL. They are changing ownership and presently sell no fuel. Pearson and Glacier are pumping jet and 100LL. Glacier mentioned they had some kind of *racing* fuel available. I can't use mogas so I didn't inquire about the octane or lead. Thanks for the info, I will pass it on to the mogas users.

all good ideas.

Buhl may have dropped out of navguide, but they do have mogas.

A call to peterson may be a good start. I have located fuel trucks for not a lot of money, I would worry more about fuel usage and age.

From a Petersen Aviation cargas STC brochure:
"Several Maule aircraft are approved through Ray Maule in Moultrie GA. These aircraft include virtually any Maule powered by the 160 hp O-320, 180 hp O-360, or 235 hp O-540 B series engines. These aircraft require midifications to the fuel system. Contact Ray Maule @ 912-985-6197"

Tim

I called this morning because I had a couple of more questions. The gentleman who answered the phone said it would be 3-4 weeks, "if it happens". They have a very unique situation on KOLM. It appears there is a gasoline tank farm on airport property. He is going to use a tank truck only. It will not have to drive off of the airport so there will be no delivery charges and he won't have to have a professional driver.

My main question was what was Air BPs attitude. His answer was, it was none of their business, if they gave him any push back they could take a hike.

Stay tuned ... and keep us updated.

That list in the petersen brochure may not be all inclusive. Have you called Moultrie & talked to ray maule about it?
