I had to get in low and close with the helicopter on the wolves we spotted near Townsend, Montana to check for collars. None of this pack was collared, and the local F & G biologist wasn't aware of any wolves in the Elkhorn Mountains south of Helena. Helicopters are excellent for this type of operation. The State also has Super-Cubs for game surveys, but a cub can't compare with a helicopter's maneuverability.
Anyway I'm having a great time even if just on a part-time basis. Found a lot of ridgelines to land the "super-maule" on skis too. Its sure nice to survey a off-field landing site for the Maule with a helicopter first.
