Montana Wilderness Closed

Starting tomorrow, 8/28, the entire Bob Marshall and Great Bear Wilderness that is within the Spotted Bear ranger district will be closed. That means Schafer Meadows will be closed. Benchmark closed yesterday and Meadow Creek closed last week. I don't know the status of Spotted Bear but best to avoid the area and let the firefighters do their work.

Holy cow.

On a side note, I had to double check who posted those pics. I thought it was BRD at first! Nice pictures!

I can see "have to", but I can't see "want to" if it's unnecessary. 13 years ago when the Missionary Ridge fire was burning outside of Durango, I was visiting my Sis, and we could hardly see across the street. Breathing was difficult, eyes were stinging and watering. I can't imagine trying to fly in that crap, unless it was absolutely unpreventable.

If you haven't had the "pleasure" of flying in smoke, trust those of us who have, It sucks.
In my case, my exposure prompted me to get my instrument rating so that was a positive outcome.
The good news is that we are finally getting some cooler weather in the Pacific Northwest so that will likely be filtering east and helping over the next couple of weeks.
