Many small rural airports are unattended and lacking a security fence or personnel. Does anyone know if either of these airports have a full height security fence around them or just a cattle fence. I realize there are no guarantees either way.
Monticello is closer to our final destination, but is not attended and is out of town along the highway.
Blanding is 20 minutes further from our destination, but seems to be in town and have more people/businesses there so I suspect may be more secure.
Any feed back is appreciated.
You won't have trouble at either. Monticello has a new security fence.. actually everything there is new. I forgot how to get back in last time I left my plane there so I had to call the city. They have a new pilots lounge that is very nice. That city gets it.
Blanding is busier, has a repair station on the field and a decent group of airport bums hanging around their hangars when the weather is good. You can access the ramp pretty easy, no gate codes. They park 3 or 4 King Airs outside every night amongst the riff. FWIW.
Edit: Ive also heard that you can hangar overnight in the large city hangar in Monticello for cheap... I'd be interested to know if thats true.
