Moose Creek 1U1 - Water?

Heading up to Moose Creek this weekend. Never been there before, but my (now) older edition of Flying Idaho and shortfield.com both report water is available. Can anyone that has been there recently confirm if we can expect drinking water to be available?

Yup, water is available. It's in a spigot near the guard house. I've been told it's potable. I've also been told it's from a creek uphill from the spigot. So, I filter.

Thanks. Will plan on bringing a filter as additional insurance.

I, and several people I was with, drank several unfiltered bottles of water from the spigot at the ranger cabin at Moose Creek earlier this summer with no ill effects. YMMV.

Is this a case of “Trust, THEN Verify?” :)

I do that too sometimes. If it’s at a FS guard station good chance non-potable H2O would have a warning sign. A call to the local national forest would be another way to reduce the guesswork.

I've been drinking that water every year for 13 years. Unless something's changed recently it's perfectly potable.

There's usually some nice folks up by the Ranger station that you can ask to make sure.

Can confirm, the water is potable and tastes great. Just got back from a quick camping trip to Moose Creek. One of my new favorites. Fishing was OK, small 6" trout mostly, maybe we don't know the best areas to fish... this was down near the bridge area in the rapids upstream and downstream of the bridge. Will have to spend more time exploring the area and try fishing down by the confluence.

I’ve seen the same results fishing there in the past. There might be a honey hole somewhere but I didn’t find it and didn’t devote a large amount of effort to the cause.

Did you see any rattle snakes? A dad and his young kids killed a couple on the trail a few years ago when I was there. They cooked them up over the fire and ate ‘em. I prefer not to bother or kill them for no reason but to each there own. They are there...and they don’t taste bad!

Glad you had a good trip! And yes, the water is good!

No rattlers fortunately, we did see 3 or 4 garter snakes close to the river.
