Couldnt be further from the truth... I would chalk that up to campfire hearsay. The MT is light years quieter than the mac, and there is no debate. Because of the design, the MT only runs 2700 on a 550/520 and 2600 on a 470. At 82" (4" shorter than the mac) the tips are running considerably slower and do not crack the sound barrier like the mac.
When I was doing T&G's with the mac to get some baseline info before we swapped, it only took a handful of laps before the airport gave me a should and asked me to stop due to complaints. (the fact that this happens is for another thread.

) I know a lot of old tymers think that the classic sound makes the experience, but for me, trying to be low profile and a good neighbor is worth everything.

Yep... and its even more dramatic on an early light bird. No one can argue that the pricing on the MT's isn't now in the stoopid category. That said, look at the other choices. Traiblazer is about $5k more than the 3 blade, and the black mac, (when you add the additional cost of the spinner and bulkheads) is only a couple grand less.
The real take away for me is the realization that the 2 blade is really the best choice. Its way lighter (46lbs) easier to hand prop (if needed) and faster in cruise than the 3 blade MT or Mac all the while just being slightly less betterer out of the hole than the 3 blade MT. I have come to the conclusion that the 2 blade is for pragmatism, and the 3 blade is for ego.
I unfortunately suffer from ego, and fell victim to hubris with a 3 bade ready to be hung on my O520... But I think I will be happy there.
