One of my favorite local flights!

I usually land opposide to what was demonstrated in the video, UPhill, AWAY from the lake.

One thing to add, if you have to go around turn RIGHT.

Left works but will put your plums in your throat.

Not that I have first hand experience...

I’ve not seen Elk but lots of cows. It’s one of my favourite spots.

Re: Most scenic strip in Washington, Tieton

Landing downhill at Tieton from time to time is a good exercise and it reminds you as Doc said if you have to abort going uphill you need to follow the reverse path of the downhill landing Larry took. A 172 tried the left departure after an abort some years ago and spiraled in.

Go around for downhill is pretty easy and you can make a cow/elk go around decision in plenty of time assuming they don't run onto the runway at the last moment.

As Larry demonstrated speed control is the key to downhill. After you have had a look at the runway on your fly over pick an abort point where if you are not on the ground by then you need to abort and try again.

Also be ready to clean cow flop off your plane after landing there.

This thread inspired me to go back to Tieton last Sunday but I changed my mind. The fire at Cliffdell nearby smoked out the area pretty bad, so I went to Joseph, clear and cool out there also nice.

Pedestrians. Watch for pedestrians. You never know who you’ll find wandering aimlessly on the airstrip.

Re: Most scenic strip in Washington, Tieton

I second that advice. No one seems to know that it's an airport

Photo taken from Jump Off lookout on Divide Ridge four miles east of Tieton Airstrip. Snow capped peaks on the left skyline are the Goat Rocks. Kloochman Rock on the left and Goose Egg Mountain on the right are the remains of an ancient volcano know as Tieton. McAllister Meadows and the John Russell Ranch were inundated by the Tietion Reservoir in 1925.

Perhaps I’m seeing this image incorrectly, but aren’t the Goat Rocks on the right? The Goat Rocks are In the Goat Rocks Wilderness, no?

The view is looking west toward the summit of White pass. Mt. Rainier on the right and Goat Rocks Wilderness on the left.

Also true at Enterprise OR. That runway is a regular dog walk for individuals and gaggles of people.
