Mountain flying course at NW Aviation Conf

I signed up for Lori's Mountain Flying class at the NW Aviation Conf, and wondered if anyone had any feedback that has taken it before.

I am making my Spring / Summer / Fall flying plans and a lot more backcountry flying is in my future..

Thanks

Re: Mountain flying course at NW Aviation Conf

I took her course at Puyallup 2 years ago. It was awesome! The worksheets and books she gives out for finding real numbers in your own airplane, was worth the price of admission alone. She is very knowledgable and realy brings all backcountry operation considerations into one package. She will also honor this course as her required ground school if you choose to go fly with her. That's a huge savings.

Re: Mountain flying course at NW Aviation Conf

If you are not comfortably landing Mile High and Dewey Moore it is well worth the training. If you are landing the challenging places the review and programed approach is worthwhile. Just going through the printed material and procedures is healthy safety check. I did not take the four day course because after the class room review in the two day course all I wanted to do was fly. There was not enough of flying for me, but then there never is. :) Mike

Speaking of mile high, ask Lori about landing a stock straight tail 172 there :D

I'm in Bonney Lake now, just wondering if any more from BCP will be at the NW Aviation Convention? I'ld love to meet some of you if you're around.

I'm planning on going Saturday. Maybe we should try to set up a group meet-up?
If the RAF's gonna have a booth this year, maybe we could all meet there say at noon.

Sounds good, I'll do my best to make it at noon also. I'll be with my wife and 3 grandkids.

The Mountain Flying course included lunch on Saturday, but I don't know if the actual class runs through lunch. I'd like to put some faces to screen names, so linger awhile at the RAF booth...

FWIW I'll probably be wearing a grey hoodie with the sleeves cut off. Short, stocky, balding, greying, beard, glasses.

Re: Mountain flying course at NW Aviation Conf

I'll be there as well - both in the mountain flying class, and hopefully at the RAF booth at noon. I'll be wearing clothes (think god) but don't know what yet. I'll probably have on a grey NW parka (waterproof with a hood) and I'll definitely have my Maule hat on. It is grease stained, so my wife tries to keep me from wearing it out of the house. I already hid it in my flight bag for good measure. I am flying down since the weather is supposed to be good both days albeit a bit gusty on Saturday. I'm hopeful that the shuttle from the airport to the venue runs smoothly...

Re: Mountain flying course at NW Aviation Conf

I managed to meet up with Cervelorod & Flyhound at the RAF booth at noon. I / we were there until probably 1245 but didn't see 180jocky or Jeredp.
Pretty good show- not so much the vendors but I ran into tons of people I know- which is my main readon for going. Haven't seen most of them since last summer. Someone (AOPA pre?) gave a talk around 1 which was to include what's going on with the drivers license medical. I was sitting north of the aurditorium like area where that was going on and didn't hear any big group "hooray!", so I assume nothing is actually happening with that yet. Wish I could say I was surprised.
