I'm betting a hungry goat would eat a Super Cub.

The money collector/promoter/salesman/BS artist behind the Mountain Goat is (or was) a guy named Bill Montagne.

Keep your money, your life, your credibility and your time as far away from him as possible Reuben. Trust me, the Archangel Roscoe Turner appeared in my hangar yesterday speaking in tongues, and told me to warn you.

I believe I previously posted the story already about how Montagne and Skp Holm hunted me down at Reno to try and pick my pockets, as well as what happened when one of his "high tech composite" parts was tested. If you have anything to do with him, losing your money will be the least damaging thing that could happen.

As much as it pains me to AGREE with EZ Flap :D  (and it'll probably pain him too) I have to fully in the case of Mr. Montagne. Snake oil salesman, and there has never been a "production" or even close variant of his "dream airplane". Every time the thing showed up somewhere in AK, it featured some VERY different components/configuration, some of which were really pretty dumb.

Not only that, but Bill put his only Goat on its back a few years ago, so I don't think there is even a prototype still flying. I haven't seen it flying around the Palmer area any more. And frankly, I don't think that it would have eaten the Cub's lunch.

Yep -- that's it. The ignominious end to the Mountain Goat. Looks like the Knik Glacier in the background.

Re: mountain goat vs super cub

The goat does exist and the numbers listed at Bills web site are true and there are two in western PA that fly. Mine has been in the air at 27mph and at 140mph. Not quite as clean as Bills and only 170hp so top end is little slower. I like the goat

Re: mountain goat vs super cub

Bills goat is going on auction in palmer feb 15th...

http://alaskaslist.com/1/posts/10_Trans ... 101MG.html

was sitting on a runway one day out by knik and he landed there and gave me a tour of the plane and when he took off he showed off a little, never seen a cub climb like that bugger did...wow. gonna step on some toes on this one, but alot of cub drivers are like ford truck owners..theres nothing better....ever...never...no matter what anyone else says...it just can't be done.

goatflyer just put a couple numbers up there, about the same number the dude told me on the runway. the plane was for real. it just worked better rightside up i think. not saying the guy behind it was great, but i believe his plane held some merit.

Re: mountain goat vs super cub

Interested in the posts about the Mountain Goat. My attorney is the one who posted the Alaska List ad regarding the auction of the aircraft. I have had a lien on the Goat for three and one half years. This is the process one has to go through to get possession of the aircraft. I ordered a Goat in 2002, so you can imagine the story I have to tell.

Regarding the performance of the Goat. I probably have more experience in and around the Goat of anyone next to Bill Montagne. If you want real world comparisons, I can give them to you. I have flown the Goat from the front and back seat, and beside the Goat in my Super Cub. Currently working on wearing out my third cub.

By the way, there were no bidders last Friday - not surprised! I got some nasty emails from people wondering why the price was so high for a damaged aircraft, but that is what I have in it plus interest. So, I am in the process of getting clear title now. Repairing the wings, etc is on the fast track and hope to have it flying by June.

Stories are good. The performance of the goat would be interesting even though it sounds like they're not going to make it to production.

Re: mountain goat vs super cub

How damaged is the Goat? Putting it back together without drawings etc. might be a challenge. I dug up the issue of Northen Pilot with the Goat a while back. Was a real feel good article about the airplane. I like the above post comparing to ford truck owners, you will NEVER change the mind of a PA18 lover.
