So Z, does it look to be a good movie? I tried to watch the clip, but it was not available for "International viewing". I have to cross the "international" border for the upcoming planting season, so will try to catch it in a theater down there. Steve

It looks okay... but I am obligated to see it since it's about flying. :) Looks similar to "Flyboys" but maybe slightly more dramatic.

The problem with aviation movies now, computer generated graphics. In other words cartoons in place of actual planes flying. They aren't much different than saturday morning cartoons. This one looks like much more of the same shtuff. I'll save my $10.00 and watch "The Great Waldo Peper" at home, then I won't have to listen to some bonehead on their cell phone.

Well, you're not going to see a modern movie with WW1 airplanes being maneuvered and shot up in live action, so this is what you get. The nice thing about CG nowadays is that it looks pretty damned good, it costs the studios less money than live action, and so you actually get a movie about the Red Baron, rather than not.

But I definitely hear you on the price of a movie ticket...ridiculous. Wait for the DVD. Around here in Portland we have "beer theaters" where you can pay $3 for the admission, and buy pints of beer and food inside. The movies are delayed for several months after initial release, but it's worth it to pay less and get buzz on.

It's true, they are good. Too good! I was really disappointed by "Flyboys" because the computer-generated airplanes had much more performance than the actual airplanes would have had. For all the crowing they did about how realistic the movie was, they missed the boat. If it wasn't for the pretty French girl "Flyboys" would have been a total bust.

I'll save my money and get out my DVDs of "The Great Waldo Pepper" and "The Blue Max" when I want to watch WWI flying.

Re: Movie trailer: The Red Baron

The best WWI movies were made in the 20's and 30's, "Hells Angels" and "Dawn Patrol" come to mind, REAL airplanes and REAL crashes. Both movies suffered fatalities in the filming, not shown of course, but they were for sure pushing the envelope in the stunts.

I can't recall which movie it was exactly, but I have it on tape, that has the famous (original) "flying through the hanger" scene. You watch that in slo mo several times and tell me that wasn't some sh*t hot flying! And...the guy on the ground outside the hanger, he ducks JUST in time, that was the real deal there.

Just did a quick search, the scene was NOT from "Its a mad, mad, mad world", it was from a 30's era movie, WAY impressive.
