After having been attacked on this forum about an insurance question and after reading a recent string, I think that the janitor here should make a slight change. Under the username where it says veteran or wanabee or etc, the term mugger should be used in some cases.

To determine who is a mugger maybe we can click into a user profile and the general forum users should be able to vote a person into the mugger class.

MTV comes to mind. Is that an attack?

Tim, if we start applying negative labels to people, where do we stop? At times many of us deserve mugger, psycho, curmudgeon, pussy, crybaby, salesman, control freak (me), naysayer, etc....

I agree that at times, all of us should make a better effort to remember that the person beyond the post text is a real person. Some of us are more knowledgeable in certain areas of aviation that others, and that knowledge should be offered respectfully with as little condescension as possible.

There's a trick to communicating effectively over the internet. Inflection is useless, so remember to use the winky emoticon when necessary

Edit: I forgot to add that maintaining a nice, thick skin in any forum is key to continued enjoyment. People speak boldly on the internet because they can, and often should. I've gotten into some serious rows with King George over on the 170 site, and it just made owning and flying a 170 a sour thing for a few days. It kinda takes some practice to achieve the perfect amount of indifference.

I believe the reason you were "mugged" as you put it, was because you sort of suggested that you might be heading down a slippery slope on an insurance question. I thought the response, from an expert in the insurance field, was perhaps a tad pointed, but nevertheless, it contained pertinent information, and left little doubt about the legalities of what was being discussed.

If I am guilty of "mugging" Mr. Kirk on the gross weight deal, I apologize. As I've noted in a couple of other threads, I've lost a number of good friends in aircraft accidents, and several of them just never should have been where they were. At least two of those were in an airplane that was significantly over gross weight at the time they were killed in it.

So, perhaps you can forgive me (or not) for being perhaps oversensitive to people coming onto public forums and bragging about their exploits. As I've noted, a lot of people look at these threads besides those who post here. Some of those people are impressionable.

I train young people to fly airplanes now. I feel a real responsibility to act responsibly around those folks, to hold them to the legal limits, and to offer a good and responsible example.

If you wish to call me "mugger", have at it, but please do so with a capital M, por favor
