"When everything seems to be going against you, remember that the airplane takes off against the wind, not with it..." HENRY FORD
RIP Eddie. I was shocked when I heard about his crash at the Thunder Over Solano airshow on Sunday. The video of his crash shows what appears to be a smooth and gradual inverted descent to impact with the tarmac. It doesn't provide any insights into what might have caused the accident. The plane was intact when it came to a stop, and the fire did not start right away. The emergency response crews took almost 5 minutes to reach the crash site on the runway and that seems inexcusable for a show at an Air Force Base. I met Eddie back the late 90s just before his featured performance for the inaugural Lincoln Beachey day celebration over San Francisco bay. He was a gentleman and an extraordinary pilot. I hope he enjoys CAVU conditions in eternity.

I considered Eddie a personal friend. I worked with him on a couple of different airshow venues. The folks here at Corning Airport new him well also. They had a local airshow here featuring Eddie for a few years. He will be missed. He had been around the circuit here on the left coast for so many years that we came to rely on him sometimes just to help us make the shows work. He knew everybody and could get you some help if you needed it. A true aviator.
I remember one year at the pilot briefing on day one of the show in Kelso he presented his pilot certificate to the FAA guy and it was totally illegible. Just a worn piece of cardboard really. The guy asked him if he could please order a replacement. Eddie just laughed.
Blue skies and fair winds Eddie. And lots of Cioppino!!

Eddie was a good guy and it's been a shock to the community at KHAF. Just didn't expect this at all.
He never hesitated to help when someone was in need. Had a friend land gear up a few days before Eddie died, and no questions asked, he showed up with his crane and helped get his plane back in the hangar.
He will be missed...
