My BCP Fly-in Trip

We woke up early and got all packed up and ready to go, only to find out that the selenoid in the starter was bad. 2 hours later and after our mechanic swapped them out, we were on our way

Adam was ready to go

On Friday we flew over to Big Creek for breakfast before heading to Dixie USFS and Wilson Bar.

That night we enjoyed dinner out on the flight line watching aircraft land

The next day we headed over to Upper Loon Creek to check it out. This was the first time I had been up here since it burned a few years back. It's in good shape and ready to be camped at again!

The poor kid really doesn't have a chance. Learn'em young!

Sunday morning before we launch for home. We had a great time and met some great people. It was good to put some names to faces. We can't wait until next year!

Nice Pix and story. Is that a CAP 182??? Sounds self-evident but now people are painting their Cessna's to match CAP colors.

I was wondering if they frowned on back-country flying in their birds.

Cory,

It was great to meet you, Dee and Adam. I gotta' hand it to you and Dee for bringing the family along, that's what flying used to be about. Years from now Adam will be able to say "my first trip into (pick the airstrip) was with my dad when I was 1 year old." Pretty cool.

It just seems like backcountry flying and family go hand in hand. Thanks for continuing the tradition.

It WAS a CAP airplane. Actually the one from SLC. We bought it from them two years ago. Had a nice, new paint job on it and it looks pretty good so there was no sense in changing it.

Cory, glad to have met you and Dee at JC. I had to take a pix of Adam as soon as I saw him. Haven't posted my pix yet but he's in there. I'll get them on here sometime this week. Best to you and your fine family. Hope to fly again with you in the coming year...>Butch

Mark,

Thanks for the kind words. I have looked forward to sharing this with him since he was in the womb at the Father's Day fly-in at Smiley Creek last year. Six days later he came on the scene. I am really lucky to have a wife that enjoys this and look forward to a lot of fun trips with them to the backcountry.

It was great to meet you and get to know you. Hey, did I hear you say that you have a pdf copy of the Idaho Wilderness History that Zane handed out to everyone? If so, would you mind emailing it to me? I am about through reading it. It's amazing how pro-airstrip the USFS once was compared to today's environment (referring to other thread).

Glad you made it home safely and can't wait until next year.

Take care,
Cory

Dave,

Man, I am so glad he didn't wake you up that night. I don't know what his deal was, but I do know that it was cold standing outside of my tent at 3am calming him down. I'm just glad he didn't wake you guys up! It was a new experience camping with him and we look forward to doing it again.

Give Dee our best and take care,
Cory

Hey Butch,

It was good to meet you too. I couldn't remember who took his pic when we got there. Looking forward to seeing it. Can't wait to see all your pics and look forward to seeing you next time at JC.

I keep a #10 guage wire with alligator clips about a foot long. Can jumper
the selenoid and get you home. Go to http://www.edmaircraft.com for
reliable light weight battery system.

Good to meet you too. I need to hit my sister-in-law that is the RN up for some more goodies from the ER...and show me how to use it.

Thanks Mark. It was good to meet you guys. We will look for you next year as well. Sorry we missed the Sunday morning service. We got up and got out of there, thinking of beating the turbulence going home. Good thing we did. We just got past the last mountain pass when all the virga started to become visible behind us.

Take care,
Cory
